How do I setup dial plans?

Written by Head Office

We recomemend only advanced users attempt to configure dial plans. Below you will find a guide to help build your very own dial plan;

() The entire dial plan must be surrounded by an open and close bracket.
| Each dial plan is separated from the next by the pipe |, but the first and last part of the dial plan only have an opening and closing bracket respectively.
0-9 Treated as normal digits
x Treated as any normal digit 0-9 on phone
* Treated as normal * character on phone
# Treated as normal # character on phone
. Repetition eg x. means any numeric digit (x) repeated 0 or more times.
<:> Substitution, eg <02:612> means replace 02 with 612
S0 Dial Immediately (capital S zero) For example: 000S0
! Barring a number, place this at the end of the number to prevent it being dialled.
, Provides a dial tone (ie outside line) eg 9,03xxxxxxxx means dial 9 then you will get an outside dial tone so you can dial the number 03xxxxxxxx.
[] Limiting choices, eg [24] means either 2 or 4, [2-5] means 2,3,4 and 5, [24-68] means 2,4,5,6,8

Simple dial plans
(<*1:0733333333>)
Description: This plan demonstrates replacement. If you dial a * followed by a 1 then the number 0733333333 would be dialed.

(<:07>[2-9]xxxxxxx)
Description: This plan prepends the 07 area code onto a local number. The reason you use [2-9] as the first digit is to exclude other interstate number ie 0[2345689] and also to exlude 1800, 1300, 13 etc

(1900xxxxxx!)
Description: This plan demonstrates number barring. If you enter a 1900 followed by 6 more digits (0-9) you call will not be placed.

An example of a popular dial plan which we use is below: (*xx.|000S0<:@gw0>|121S0|151S0|181S0|[2-9]xxxxxxxS0|0[23478]xxxxxxxxS0|0011xxx.|1800xxxxxxS0<:@gw0>|<*9:>xx.<:@gw0>|101S0 <:@gw0>|*10#S0<:@gw0>|1300xxxxxxS0 |13[1-9]xxxS0|<#0,:>xxx.<:@gw0>|xxx.)

How much bandwidth does VoIP need?

Written by Head Office
A single VoIP call consumes approximately 33kb/s of internet bandwidth. You must also remember if you are sharing your internet connection with VoIP and everyday internet usage you will need to allow extra bandwidth to allow for the extra usage.

What kind of equipment do I need for VoIP to work?

Written by Head Office
There are two main requirements before you can begin using VoIP. Firstly you will need a high speed internet connection (ADSL, Cable or wireless) then you will need a compatible VoIP phone. You have the chose of either using a VoIP phone, VoIP soft phone or a VoIP ATA which converts your normal phone into a VoIP phone. We recommend contacting your local representative who will recommend what will be best for your requirements.

What numbers do I dial to make calls?

Written by Head Office
Depending on the type of call you are making it will determine what you need to do when making a call. Below you will find the instructions for each type of call:

Local and STD:

To dial local or STD number you must enter the area code followed by the number. For example if your calling your next door neighbor or a friend in another state you must enter the area code (Example 07 for QLD) followed by the normal number.

Mobiles:

To call mobiles you simply need to dial the mobile number you are calling.

International:

When making international calls you don’t need to include 0011 so you need to simply dial in the following format; country code + phone number.

Emergency (000):

Currently you can not dial 000 from our VoIP service and we suggest using your normal landline or mobile for this.

Other Call types (1800, 1300 & 13):
There are 2 ways to dial other call types. If caller ID isn’t active then you need to dial your states area code followed by the number (Example 07 13) but if caller ID is active then simple dial the normal number.
